Automatic trip hammer
THE AUTOMATIC TRIP HAMMER IS DESIGNED FOR DRIVING THE STANDARD PENETRATION TEST (SPT).
The Automatic trip hammer is under SPT Standard Procedures.
There are 3 main parts on the Automatic trip hammer:
1. The Inner tube assembly + Extension cap
2. The Drop weight
3. The Outer tube assembly
The Automatic trip hammer inner tube assembly, that is including the anvil, must be firmly screw to the drive rods by means of an adaptor which is 50 mm rod connection.
The hammer consists of a weight of 63.5 kg complete with pick-up and self-tripping mechanism that ensures that the weight has a free-fall of 760 mm.
The Automatic trip hammer is supplied with a lifting eye, to attach the assembly to the winch of the rig. In this way, we can raise the assembly, position it on the drive rods and join it with the adaptor.
Once the assembly is set securely to, and aligned with the drive rods, the safety cross bolt is taken off and the outer tuve is released.
Using the rig winch, the outer tube assembly together with the drop weight, is raised up. when it arrives to the extension cap, the drop weight is automatically released, and falls free over the anvil.
Operating rig winch in opposite way, the inner tube is lowered to pick-up the drop weight by means of lifting pawls.
The cycle is repeated until the end of the test.
